Theo van Rysselberghe transferred the pointillism of Georges Seurat into a personal imagery. Having moved to the South of France in the early twentieth century, nudes, land- and seascapes became the main subjects for his neo-impressionistic style. The warm, lustrous tones and swift touches of paint used for this study are typical for the artist’s late paintings. Continuing to explore the workings of light and colour, Van Rysselberge proceeded painting bathing scenes until his death in 1926.
