Van Doorn's work is also described as "poetic surrealism." Surrealist artists combined images in a very realistic style in an unexpected, surprising way, painted dream images and tried to let their imagination run free. Van Doorn also painted dream or fantasy images, but his style was much more disguised - and perhaps as a result poetic - than the hyperrealism of the surrealists.
