Tinus van Doorn, the 'artist of the lost paradise' came to the Netherlands in 1913 and developed an expressionist style. Besides his paintings, he focused on making wood- and linocuts. From the late thirties he also concentrated on sculpting. The fear that Van Doorn felt after the mobilization in April 1939 is reflected in his work insistently. The expressionist and naive style of Van Doorn has a non-detailed, rough depiction of his motives, angular lines and unnaturally bright colours.
