In 1900 Dufy won a scholarschip to the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris where he studied with Othon Friesz. At this time he was mainly influenced by impressionist landscape painters, such as Claude Monet and Camille Pissarro. In this year he painted the beautiful La Seine au pont d'Asnières, a railway bridge over the river Seine near the town of Asnières, just outside Paris. Dufy's made this impression of the bridge, being crossed by train, the Seine with its pontoons, cranes and boats in impressionist style. LA Seine au pont d'Asnières was a frequently chosen subject and also depicted by other modernist painters like Émile Bernard, Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Pierre Auguste Renoir, Paul Signac and Maurice de Vlaminck.
