George Hendrik Breitner is a very talented dutch artist who was highly respected by his contemporaries. Studied at the academies in The Hague and Amsterdam. Became the most important painter of the Amsterdam Impressionists. Choose themes of the daily city-life, cityscapes, building sites, cavalries. He visualized them with powerful brushstrokes in moody brown colours. Received several rewards and medals. Works of Breitner can be found in the Rijksmuseum, Vincent van Gogh Museum and Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam), Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen (Rotterdam), Centraal Museum (Utrecht) and Museum Twenthe (Enschede).
